Our admitting staff is trained to complete the necessary paperwork in a timely, efficient manner. If you have a MED-KEY card, this process is streamlined. You need to present your MED-KEY card, your insurance card, and some form of identification. If you do not have a MED-KEY card, we’ll get the necessary information from you and we’ll drop a MED-KEY card in the mail for your next visit. Or apply online for a MED-KEY card anytime.

In an effort to continue putting our patients first, we are pleased to offer a phone pre-registration process. Pre-registration allows us to make better use of a patient's time when they arrive for a scheduled service. It also gives us the opportunity to contact the patient's insurance providers in advance of their appointments/admission to ensure that appropriate pre-authorizations are obtained. Our goal is to assist the patient in receiving the maximum benefits offered by their insurance plan. As a part of the pre-registration process, the admission clerk will verify your benefits prior to your hospital visit, which will enable you to know your financial obligations associated with the care and services provided at Upstate Carolina Medical Center. For phone pre-registration, call (864) 487-1621.

We file your insurance claims for you as a courtesy. However, we remind you that your insurance coverage is a contract between you and your insurance company. We have many agreements with insurance companies where we have agreed to accept a certain amount for providing services to you. However, almost no insurance company pays 100% of that amount. Your insurance company will require a deductible and a percentage of the reminder, known as co-pay.
