Carotid Duplex Study

Also called Carotid Doppler, this test uses an ultrasound machine to visualize the arteries in a patient's neck that deliver blood to the brain.  An ultrasonic gel is applied to the skin and a transducer is moved over the skin to image the arteries checking for plaque build-up.  Color and Doppler are used to check blood flow through the arteries imaged.
