Upstate Carolina Medical Center Emergency Medical Service (EMS) is the primary agency responsible for the pre-hospital care and transportation of persons who become acutely ill or injured and are in need of ambulance transport to a hospital using Advanced Life Support ambulances.

Upstate Carolina Medical Center EMS serves a population of approximately 55,000 in a geographic area of approximately 397 square miles. There are 4 frontline ambulances in the EMS fleet that are stationed at 3 locations throughout the Cherokee County including Gaffney, Blacksburg and the Macedonia area. In 2010, Upstate Carolina EMS responded to almost 7,000 calls for service. In addition to full-time and part-time staff, the Department receives first responder support from both paid and volunteer fire departments and industries.
