Post Intensive Care Services

Upstate Carolina Medical Center’s Post Intensive Care Unit has 34 telemetry monitored beds.  The Post Intensive Care Unit offers a multidisciplinary team focus.  We provide care to those patients who require close observation and/or concentrated nursing care with cardiac monitoring. We provide care for a variety of patients who have acute or chronic illness or multiple complicating disease processes. Our main focus is to provide for a multidisciplinary team approach to meet the patient’s physical, emotional and educational needs so the patient may return to their activities of daily living at the time of their discharge.

Phone Calls: Spokesperson and HIPAA

For reasons of patient privacy (HIPAA) and the coordination of patient care, please have a designated person to communicate your family member’s healthcare needs and care with.  We will ask you for a password which must be used before any information can be given out over the phone.  The spokesperson will be the individual with whom the nursing staff will communicate information during your family member's stay.  The password will be agreed upon at the time of the patient’s admission to the hospital.

Understanding and Privacy

You may be asked by a Nurse, Physician or Patient Care Tech to step out the patient’s room during a procedure or an examination.  When the procedure is finished you will be allowed to continue your visitation time.

Questions

Should you have any questions during your family member's stay, please feel free to ask any one of the members of the staff on PICU.  We want your loved one to recover as quickly as possible.
